A newly proposed bipartisan border security bill has upset Donald Trump, who called it “a death wish” for the GOP in a critical election year.
Just hours after the bill was publicly released, the former president, who is once again running for office in 2024, took to Truth Social to express his views on its provisions.
“Only a fool, or a Radical Left Democrat, would vote for this horrendous Border Bill, which only gives Shutdown Authority after 5000 Encounters a day, when we already have the right to CLOSE THE BORDER NOW, which must be done,” Trump wrote in his typical random capitalization form.
The legislation in question was crafted in part by Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.), an alleged conservative.
“This Bill is a great gift to the Democrats, and a Death Wish for The Republican Party,” Trump continued in his post. “It takes the HORRIBLE JOB the Democrats have done on Immigration and the Border, absolves them, and puts it all squarely on the shoulders of Republicans.”
“Don’t be STUPID!!! We need a separate Border and Immigration bill. It should not be tied to foreign aid in any way, shape or form!”

Trump is not the only Republican who opposes the new border security bill. Numerous Republicans blasted it, including House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) who wrote on X that it will not even receive a vote in the House.
Citing the same details as Trump, Scalise warned that the legislation will allow up to 5,000 illegal aliens a day to penetrate America’s southern border while also granting automatic work permits to asylum recipients, which he called “a magnet for more illegal immigration.”
House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) is rejecting the bill as well, calling it the “Joe Biden / Chuck Schumer Open Border Bill.”
“House Republicans have already passed HR2 – the Secure Our Border Act, which would actually secure the border and return to the effective Trump policies with the most secure border in our nation’s history,” Stefanik said.
Officially unveiled the night of February 4, the legislation includes $20 billion for border security, if you can call it that, as well as $60 billion in fresh aid for Ukraine and $14.1 billion in fresh aid for Israel.
Republicans at large had previously indicated that they would only support any further aid for Ukraine if it is paired with legislation to address the southern border. Trump, however, says the inclusion of any funding for Ukraine will likely render the bill a non-starter.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) issued his opposition to the legislation not long after it was released, stating that it is “even worse than we expected.” Johnson then made it clear that the bill is “dead on arrival” in the House.
Polls continue to show that most voters trust Trump over President Biden to better handle the immigration and border crisis. Especially in an election year, the Biden regime’s open-borders policies and what they are doing to the nation are likely to hurt “the big guy’s” chances at getting reelected, save for fraud.
“This bill reads like it was drafted in Kiev,” commented Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.). “It’s a massive issue that a border bill for AMERICA is more about funding the wars of foreign countries rather than our own interests and people.”
