The collapse of the city of Chicago under left-wing Democratic leadership continues, as noted by reports that the international airport now allows filthy conditions to proliferate in the form of small homeless encampments.
As reported by the UK’s Daily Mail, the “encampments have sprung up inside crime-riddled Chicago‘s O’Hare International Airport terminal, leaving some concerned for their safety as images of people sleeping in filthy makeshift shelters have emerged.”
“Thousands of people sleeping rough have sought refuge at the popular airline hub, with many setting up shelters inside the terminal buildings,” the report continued.
The report noted further:
Passengers were quick to snap the deteriorating situation with one Twitter user posting a photo of several people sleeping among a throng of belongings near Terminal 1 of the airport.
Other shocking photos show one man collapsed inside an entrance vestibule, another slumped over with no shoes on and a group of half a dozen people who have taken over an indoor area next to the escalators.
Airport officials promptly responded to some photos posted online with a boilerplate statement about being ‘concerned’ over the situation.
“We appreciate your feedback. Safety, security and an optimal passenger experience is top priority for the CDA, and we have forwarded your message along to our security team,” the statement said, indicating — amazingly — that this was the first time managers were made aware of the situation. “We apologize for any inconvenience caused and hope your next visit to ORD is more enjoyable.”
Another social media user described the scene as “dystopian.”
“I flew back to O’Hare, Terminal 3, last week. I had never seen such a homeless problem, in baggage, in the 50 years I have lived in Cook Co. It’s not even that cold out! Also, aggressively hit up with ‘ya need a ride?’ in baggage. It was dystopian,” the user said, per the Daily Mail.
According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, on any given night in 2020, more than 580,000 people were experiencing homelessness in the United States.
The COVID-19 pandemic only exacerbated the issue, as millions of people lost their jobs and were struggling to make ends meet thanks mostly to, again, Democratic lockdown policies that lasted for more than a year in blue states and cities — like Chicago.
Many people who were already living on the brink of homelessness were pushed over the edge by the economic impacts of the pandemic. The situation has been made worse by the fact that affordable housing has become increasingly scarce in many parts of the country due in large part to Democrat taxes and regulations.
In addition to the economic factors driving homelessness, there are also other factors that contribute to the problem. Many people experiencing homelessness also struggle with mental illness or addiction and may lack access to the healthcare and support services they need to recover. The criminal justice system also plays a role, as many people who are released from jail or prison find themselves with few options for housing and support.
The homeless problem in America is not limited to a few cities or regions, but is a nationwide issue. In cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle, the issue has become particularly acute, with large tent cities springing up in parks and other public spaces. In fact, California has the highest homeless population, driven by left-wing Democratic policies that prevent police and business owners from keeping homeless people off the streets and out in front of businesses.
While there have been efforts to address the issue, many experts agree that the root causes of homelessness must be addressed if we are to make lasting progress. One of them would be to ditch Democrats.
